Biography: Junqi Li, or Jun, is from Guangzhou, China, which is the third biggest city in China. She decided to study abroad after she graduated from high school in 2009. She started by staying in Nanaimo, Canada for an ESL program. At that time, Junqi lived with a Canadian family. Since they were so helpful, she improved her English skills very soon, and after she finished ESL, she applied to PSU and was accepted in 2011.
The first time Junqi went to Portland was during the break of 2010. When she arrived, it was already midnight, yet there were still many lights like her hometown. At that moment, she just felt like she was home. After the trip, Junqi started to think about the possibility of studying in Portland. Being an international student, homesickness is her biggest enemy; so she realized Portland may be the right destination for her to pursue a bachelors degree. Junqi put that thought into action and she is now a serior, majoring in accounting.
Before applying to the International Cultural Service Program (ICSP), she volunteered at The International School, sharing her Chinese culture. Junqi is honored to join ICSP because sharing and learning about different cultures makes her feel happy and useful. As part of her service with ICSP, Junqi is also working with the International Women's Group which meets each Friday from 12pm to 1pm in the International Student Lounge, EH 121.
